July 6 Thanksgiving Thursday

Finishing up the Psalms every month, I am reminded, comforted and exhorted to praise the Lord, to give thanks and praise and to do so with instruments, with nature, with my voice and my body. And so, this post was born. Maybe it’s because my own thanksgiving has become weak, drowned out by the clamor of complaint, or possibly nonexistent at times. Let’s revive the art of thanksgiving, since this is the will of God for us in Christ Jesus!

There are times that my thanks may seem small, and yet, as I say thanks aloud, my heart is soothed, lifted and I sense the Spirit giving His thanks along with mine. Other times, my gratefulness is loud, boisterous, energetic and seemingly endless. Either way, I am certain my Father delights in my thanksgiving. If I could make lists for days, I still wouldn’t come close to all the thanks and praise He deserves. It is humbling to think of every breath as a gift, every day as a proof of His providence. What blessings we possess in Christ! How thankful this truth should enable and allow us to be!

All thanks to God

I am so thankful for the complete provision of Christ.

Completely and deeply appreciative for the friendships my Father has granted me.

Amazed and grateful for the laughter and contentment I see in myself and my family.

I give thanks for the season I am in, and for the overwhelming comfort I receive from Him.

I am reminded how pleasing music is in expressing my feelings and thoughts, and I am grateful.

Praise the Lord for His faithfulness! I am immeasurably thankful for His creation which gives witness to His greatness.

Humbled and grateful that He loves me so.

Thinking with appreciation of how He guides my steps, and covers me with His Presence.

A prayer based on Psalm 100

Oh, Lord we shout for joy to You, joining with your creation. We worship You with gladness and come to You with songs full of joy. Help us to know You as Lord and God. It is You who made us and we are Yours. We are Your people and the sheep of Your pasture.

Allow us to enter Your gates with thanksgiving and Your courts with praise! We give thanks to You and praise Your name. You are good and Your love endures forever; Your faithfulness continues through all generations!

Oh, my heart. It’s as if every day I must grow in my capacity for sorrow. Sure, there is joy and happiness and good times, yet increasingly, I find myself mourning the state of this world. This is when I am sometimes most thankful that this world is not my home. It is full of brokenness, hurt, evil and chaos.
